The fine print, in plain English

Privacy Policy (Draft)

This is a draft for review before publishing.

It hasn't been finalised. Anything marked "to confirm" still needs an answer, and the rest needs checking before anyone relies on it.

Recruitment runs on personal details, so you should know what I do with yours. Here's how I handle them.

This policy takes effect on the date this site goes live.

Who I am

The Select Few is a recruitment agency in Perth, WA (ABN 40 357 431 199), run by me, Sher. When this policy says "I" or "me", that's who it means.

I've organised this policy with the Australian Privacy Principles in mind. They're the national rules on how personal information should be handled.

What I collect

If you're looking for work

  • Your name and contact details.
  • Your CV, work history, skills and qualifications.
  • What you're looking for in your next role.
  • Details of the referees you give me, and what they tell me about you.
  • My notes from our conversations.

Sensitive information: I only collect a police check, and only when an employer needs one for a particular role. I'll always ask for your consent first. I don't collect health details.

If you're hiring

  • Your name, role, business name and contact details.
  • Details of the roles you're filling and the kind of person you need.
  • My notes from our conversations, and records of our agreements.

How I get it

Mostly from you directly: in conversation, by phone or email, or in documents you send me. Sometimes it comes from someone else, such as a referee you've named.

You're welcome to ask me general questions without giving your name. I just can't put you forward for a role, or find someone for yours, without knowing who you are.

Why I collect it

  • To get to know you and vet candidates properly.
  • To match people with roles and employers with people.
  • To stay in touch about a role, a placement or a question you've asked.
  • To keep the records I need to run the business and meet my legal obligations.

I don't sell your details, and I won't add you to a marketing list without asking you first.

How it's stored

Your records are kept in HeyAmara, the recruitment system I use.

I take reasonable steps to keep them safe from loss, misuse and people who shouldn't see them. No system is perfectly secure, so I won't tell you otherwise.

Candidate records are kept for 2 years after we were last in touch. Employer records are kept for 7 years, for tax and business records. When I no longer need your details and the law doesn't require me to keep them, I'll delete them or remove anything that identifies you.

Who I share it with

Employers. I only share a candidate's details with an employer in connection with a role, and only with your OK.

Candidates. I'll tell candidates about an employer and the role so they can decide whether it's right for them.

Referees. If I contact someone you've named as a referee, they'll know you've put them forward.

People who help me run the business. The software I use to run the business, such as my recruitment system and email, stores records on my behalf. No staff or contractors see your details.

When the law requires it. I'll disclose information if I'm legally required to.

Can my details go overseas?

Yes, some of them can. My recruitment system, HeyAmara, says it may process personal information in Australia, the United States and Canada. This website is hosted by Cloudflare, a US company that runs data centres around the world, so the basic visitor logs described below may be processed outside Australia, including in the United States.

Seeing and correcting your details

You can ask to see the details I hold about you, and ask me to fix anything that's wrong or out of date. Just get in touch using the details below.

I'll need to confirm it's really you first. It costs nothing to ask. I'll respond within 30 days. If there's a reason I can't do what you've asked, I'll tell you what it is.

If something's not right

Please tell me first, using the details below, so I can look into it and try to put it right. I'll respond within 30 days.

If you're not happy with my answer, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), Australia's privacy regulator, at oaic.gov.au.

This website

This site has no trackers or analytics, and it doesn't set any cookies of its own.

The contact form doesn't currently send your details anywhere. It checks what you've typed and tells you that sending isn't connected yet, so nothing you enter reaches me. To get in touch for now, please use the phone number or email address below. If the form is connected later, I'll update this policy first.

The site's host, Cloudflare, keeps basic visitor logs, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit, to run and protect the site.

Changes to this policy

If the way I handle your details changes, I'll update this page and its effective date.
